Lady Marshals claim Region 1 title with 5-2 win over McCracken County

Let the celebration begin – the Lady Marshals claim the Region 1 title and punch their ticket to the state tournament with Wednesday’s 5-2 title win over McCracken County. It’s the fourth Region 1 Championship in program history.

Marshall County and McCracken County faced off for the third time this season — but this time, the stakes were higher, with the Region 1 Championship on the line. For the first time since the 2019 season, the Lady Marshals raised the championship trophy after defeating the Lady Mustangs 5-2, punching their ticket to the KHSAA State Softball Tournament.

Allicen Harris is greeted at home plate by her teammates after blasting a two-run homer in the first inning for the early 2-0 lead in the Region 1 title game against McCracken County.

It was a true team effort, highlighted by several standout performances — none bigger than that of senior Allicen Harris. In the circle, Harris earned the win, allowing 10 hits and two runs while striking out three. At the plate, she delivered her 11th home run of the season, a two-run shot in the first inning that gave Marshall County an early 2-0 lead.

McCracken put their first run up in the top of the third on an RBI single by Savannah McDowell and a sacrifice fly from Addley Leidecker tied the game at 2-2, scoring Olivia Lee, who had led off the inning with a double.

Trinlee Anderson celebrates after crossing home plate – the run giving the Lady Marshals a 5-2 lead in the fifth inning over McCracken in the Region 1 championship. Anderson was a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate with a double and RBI.

The Lady Marshals regained control in the fifth. Emma-Leigh Reynolds led off with a single, and Harris followed by drawing a walk. With two outs, Trinlee Anderson delivered an RBI single, and Kadence Cavitt followed with a two-run double to make it 5-2.

McCracken mounted a late threat in the seventh, loading the bases with one out after a pair of singles and a third hit. But Harris buckled down, striking out the next batter and inducing a flyout to second baseman Reynolds, who secured the final out — and the championship.

Harris was selected Most Valuable Player and joining her on the All-Region team from Marshall County – Audrey Knisley, Trinlee Anderson and Kadence Cavitt.

Opening rounds of the 2025 Clark’s Pump-N-Shop Softball State Tournament take place on June 5-6 at the University of Kentucky.
