Dodging rainstorms and windy conditions, the Class 3A Region 1 meet wrapped up late on Thursday night with the Daviess County girls taking the win while Marshall County finished fourth.
Two Region 1 champions were crowned and a total of seven automatically qualified in their events for the KHSAA State Track and Field Championships with more to follow based on time and marks from across the state.
Individual champions came in the 3200 meters with Addison Lyles crossing in first, well ahead of her competitors, with a time of 11:37.56. Mia McGregor is a Region 1 champion in the triple jump, taking the win with a leap of 32-05.50.
Five automatic state qualifiers finishing in second place came from Lily Hays (shot put), Audrey Grace Brown (discus), Mia McGregor (long jump), Ann Marie Peffer (pole vault) and the 4×800 meter relay (Addison Peterson, Candice Gunn, Jessica Reed, Addison Lyles).
The KHSAA State Track and Field meet for Class 3A takes place on Saturday, May 31 at the University of Kentucky Track and Field Complex.
