Late rallies, shutout and a tie highlight Lady Marshals week

Sophomore Kadence Cavitt had a hit in each of the Lady Marshals three games this week including two RBIs.

Two wins and a tie made up the week for the Lady Marshals softball team and they’ll look to carry that momentum into a home doubleheader on Saturday — first facing Trigg County at 9:00 a.m., followed by a matchup with South Warren to close out the regular season.

With a 24-6-1 record, the Lady Marshals head into next week’s 4th District Tournament — hosted at Marshall County — as the top seed. They’ll play for the championship on Tuesday at 6:00 p.m. against the winner of the Murray vs. Calloway County semifinal.

Monday’s game at Madisonville-North Hopkins (22-9-1) ended in a 5-5 tie when it was called after the sixth inning due to lightning.

The Lady Maroons held a commanding 5-0 lead through four innings before the Lady Marshals responded with a run in the fifth and four more in the sixth to tie it up.

Elin Denfip led off the fifth with a double and was driven in by Allicen Harris to put the Lady Marshals on the board. In the sixth, with the bases loaded, a wild pitch and an error brought in two more runs. Denfip then delivered a clutch two-run single to even the score at 5-5 before the game was halted at the start of the seventh inning.

Harris pitched six innings, allowing eight hits and four earned runs while striking out seven.
