Marshall County baseball player Clayton Wyatt has committed to continue his academic and athletic career at Brescia University in Owensboro, Ky. A four-year starter behind the plate, Clayton has been a cornerstone of the Marshals’ defense and a steady presence in the lineup since his freshman year.
Over his high school career, Clayton has racked up more than 295 varsity at-bats, tallying 54 hits, 31 RBIs, 43 runs scored, 45 walks and 19 stolen bases. Behind the plate, he’s been nothing short of incredible, catching 414 innings and throwing out over 35 baserunners.
Clayton’s quiet confidence, leadership and consistency have made him a role model both on the field and in the clubhouse. He has also excelled in the classroom, carrying a 3.8 GPA. When he’s not catching baseballs, he’s probably catching fish. A standout on the Marshall County Bass Fishing Team, Clayton is a five-time Regional Qualifier, two-time Regional Champion, and has placed third in the region twice. He’s also a four-time State and National Qualifier.
Clayton has started a growing business in CW Lawncare and Landscaping and plans to continue growing that in addition to continuing to be a student/athlete. Whether he is on a lawnmower, behind the plate, at shortstop, or on the water, his work ethic, athleticism, and coachability, and team-first mentality have helped him succeed at Marshall County, and those same qualities will serve him well at the next level and beyond.
“Congratulations to Clayton, his family, and Brescia University on adding not just a great athlete, but an even better young man to their program”, Head Coach Tyler O’Daniel said.
Joining Clayton at his signing were members of his family, the baseball team, coaches and friends.
