Marshall County Baseball honored six seniors and their parents during a pre-game ceremony on Monday night before taking the field against St. Mary. The Marshals capped off the celebration with a 9-2 victory over the Vikings (15-7), improving their season record to 18-7.

St. Mary struck first in the top of the opening inning, scoring on an RBI double by Jake Morris following a walk and an error that put two runners on base.

The Marshals responded quickly, scoring three runs in the bottom half of the inning. Back-to-back singles by Hudson Doughty and Kannon Dunn set things up, followed by a double from Matthew Henderson to tie the game. Kash Chiles added an RBI single, and Maddox Cope drove in the third run on a groundout.

Marshall County extended the lead in the second inning. Talen Rose was hit by a pitch and later scored on a single by Dunn. With two outs, Cope singled to right field, bringing in Doughty and Dunn to push the lead to 6-1.

Rain delayed the game midway but didn’t dampen the Marshals bats as they tacked on three more runs. Rose drove in a run with a single in the fifth, and after St. Mary added one more on a sacrifice fly by Brett Haas in the sixth, Marshall answered in the bottom of the inning with a two-run double from Clayton Wyatt.

Kaden Merrick went the distance on the mound, earning the complete-game win. He allowed eight hits, two runs (one earned), and struck out five.
