Tennis team wrapping up matches before next weeks regionals

J.T. Hall has won in singles three times, and a doubles victory in recent matches and fell in a close competitive singles match against McCracken County.

It’s been a busy end to April and early May for the Marshall County tennis team as they prepare for next week’s Regionals that get underway on May 12 at the Larry Heflin Tennis Courts in Lone Oak.

Facing Mayfield on April 28, the boys lost a close match 5-4 to the Cardinals while the girls fell 6-1. The boy’s won four singles matches and J.C. Wells won her singles match in a tiebreaker. Lexie Rhone lost her singles match 8-5 and both Wells and Rhone lost a competitive doubles match 8-5.

The following day, weather played a role in ending a match early against West Kentucky Homeschool, but they were able to get in a few doubles matches.

May began with a sweep of Graves County – the boys taking a 5-4 win while the girls grabbed a 5-3 victory, two by default.

They faced regional powerhouse McCracken County last week. The Mustangs swept all 12 matched played but the Marshals put up a good fight in three of the matches. In singles J.T. Hall lost a close on (8-6) and Mason Hall (8-4). Lincoln Colbun and Eli Rudd battled in doubles before falling 8-6.

The girls lost nine matches played against McCracken but didn’t make it easy for the Lady Mustangs in at least three matches. Campbell Hill lost 8-5, Lexie Rhone 8-4 and in doubles, Taylor Thomas and Chloe Anderson dropped a competitive 8-6 match.

Against Murray on Thursday, the boys claimed a 7-4 victory while the girls lost a close 5-4 match. Elston Evans and Maverick Simmons lost their double match in a tiebreaker and Campbell Hill dropped her singles match, also in a tiebreaker.
