Marshall County track and field athletes are in the final stretch of preparation for the all-important Area 1 Championships this Saturday at Henderson County, followed by the Region 1 Class 3A meet on May 20 in Murray.
The teams are fine tuning their events with the most resent meets last Saturday at Apollo and a Quad Meet hosted by Marshall County on Thursday.
The boys’ team took the win at Apollo with 11 top five performances and five first place finishes while the girls’ team had 12 top five results and one first place finish.
The Marshals dominated the relay events, taking the win in all three they entered – the 4×100, 4×200 and 4×400. Sam Morgan, Jett Jones, Kruz Powell and Isaac Hodges made up the first place 4×100 that ran a time of 44.19. Morgan and Powell were joined by Cade Sorrells and Isaac Reynolds for the 4×200 with a winning time of 1:30.89. Sorrells, Hodges, Reynolds and Owen Futrell took first in the 4×800 in 3:31.89.
Two individual victories came from Deegan Croley, who has been dominant in the throwing events. He won the discus with a throw of 172’2″ and the shot put at 56’1.5″.
Addison Lyles led the girls with a first-place finish in the one-mile run, clocking 5:18.33. She also took second in the 3200 meters at 11:46.90. In the sprints, Allie Burkeen placed second in the 100 meters (13.39) and fifth in the 200 meters (28.92). The 4×400 relay team of Charleigh Duncan, Mia McGregor, Jessica Reed, and Lexi Driver placed second with a time of 4:31.36.
