Lady Marshals no-hitter earns district sweep, suffer back-to-back losses

The Lady Marshals enter this week with a record of 21-5 and 4-0 district record.

Following last week’s 7-0 shutout of Calloway County, the Lady Marshals completed a regular season district sweep. Though they suffered their first back-to-back losses of the season—falling 6-3 to Ballard Memorial and 6-0 to Henderson County—their impressive season continues as they enter the week with a 21-5 record.

Allicen Harris earned the shut out over the Lady Lakers, throwing a no-hitter and recording 16 strikeouts. Offensively, the Lady Marshals recorded 10 hits in the game.

Macy McLeod hit a three-run double in the fourth to put them on top 4-0 following an RBI single hit by Kandence Cavitt. A triple by Trinlee Anderson added another run in the fifth and the final two crossed the plate on a Calloway County error in the sixth for the 7-0 victory.

In their 6-3 loss to Ballard Memorial, the Lady Marshals had the early lead with a two-run first inning, capitalizing on a bases-loaded walk and a hit-by-pitch.

The Lady Bombers put up four runs in the second inning scoring on a two-run single by Tessa Holman and two RBI double from Aubrey Alexander.

Marshall County trimmed the lead to one in the third, scoring on a single from Merriel Jackson. Ballard extended their lead to 5-3 in the fourth, scoring on an error, and an RBI single in the sixth by Alexander gave them the 6-3 win.

At the Catholic Classic held Saturday at Jack C. Fisher Park in Owensboro, the Lady Marshals dropped their first game to Henderson County, 6-0 in five innings. The second game, scheduled against Tecumseh (IN), was canceled due to weather.

Henderson County built their lead with a run in the first inning on a single, added two more in the second with a sacrifice and another single, then extended it in the fourth with a bases-loaded hit-by-pitch and a walk. The final run came across on a groundout. Henderson’s Anna Kemp earned the win, striking out 12.

The Lady Marshals had four hits in the game, including triples by Macy McLeod and Audrey Knisley, and singles from Emma Reynolds and Merriel Jackson.

Up next, the Lady Marshals will play at Graves County on Monday and at McCracken County on Tuesday. Both games get underway at 6:00.
