He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and a member of Mayfield-Graves Country Club. Bob graduated from Murray State University with a degree in mathematics. He was former Head Basketball Coach and Athletic Director at Mayfield High School. He was a retired teacher and coach with the Mayfield Independent School System, co-owner of A Plus Realty and co-owner of Barger Realty.
Mr. Sparks is survived by his wife, Connie Fowler Sparks; one son, Steve (Andrea) Sparks of Nashville, TN; one daughter, Lori (Ken) Frericks of Louisville, KY; two stepsons, Jared (Jennifer) Gibson and Justin Gibson both of Mayfield, KY; one brother, Don (Nancy) Sparks of Mayfield, KY; one sister, Shirley (Bob) Spillman of Louisville, KY; two grandsons, Ryan Sparks and Andrew Sparks; and two granddaughters, Elizabeth Frericks and Sara Frericks.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Judy DeBorde; one sister-in-law, Carolyn Lowe Sparks; and his parents, Arnold L. and Birdie Moore Sparks.
Funeral services for Mr. Robert A. “Coach Bob” will be 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 27, 2025 at Byrn Funeral Home in Mayfield, KY. Mel Doughty and Deacon Michael Clapp will officiate. Interment will follow at Ray’s Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Justin Suiter, Tim Morrison, Brad Sparks, Jeff Neill, Gary Adams and Waylon Hicks. The Mayfield High School Class of 1959 will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Visitation will be 12:00 – 2:00 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home.
