Mary Ruth Wright (née Boyd), affectionately known as GranMary, passed away at the age of 96 in Lexington, Kentucky. A lifelong resident of Mayfield, Kentucky, Mary Ruth spent 93 years in the community she loved deeply, offering warmth, wisdom, and unwavering love to all who knew her.

Born in 1929, Mary Ruth was the heart of her family. She was witty, intelligent, and generous—equal parts grace and grit. A longtime member of First United Methodist Church in Mayfield, Mary Ruth’s faith in Christ guided every chapter of her life.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband and life partner, Hal Wright, with whom she shared a deep love and a spirit of adventure. Together, they traveled the country in their Winnebago, exploring backroads and campgrounds with delight, and even ventured overseas on trips through Europe. Whether at home in Mayfield or far from it, they embraced the world side by side.

Mary Ruth also joins her parents Curtis and Grace Boyd; her siblings Georgie, Belinda, and Curtis; her son, Wesley Wright (Connie); and her son-in-law, Randy Carl Jones; as well as countless friends and loved ones in Heaven.

She is survived by her daughters, Valerie Jones Nedrow (Bruce) and Amelia “Amy” Wright Morey (Thomas). She was a proud and devoted grandmother to nine grandchildren: April Wright, Misty Hayes, Abbie Jones, Micah Jones (Tiffany), Jantzen Jones (Danielle), Brandon Nedrow (Kari), Madeleine McElwain (Josh), Meredith Rollins (James), and Mary Elizabeth Hofelich (Travis). She was also blessed with nineteen great-grandchildren and a wide circle of extended family and friends whose lives she touched with love and generosity.

If you ever spent time at GranMary’s house, you know that time seemed to slow down there. Maybe it was the smell of something delicious coming from the kitchen—her legendary Thanksgiving feasts, her famous slaw, or a pot of her comforting Mayberry soup. Maybe it was the peaceful sunroom, where she’d sit with a good book or a crossword puzzle, or her flower-filled garden that she nurtured with the same care she gave her family.

She was a woman who remembered every birthday, sending handwritten cards marked carefully on her oversized calendar filled with the names of those she loved. She gave generously, laughed often, and never passed up a slice of dessert or the chance to tell a good story. Her spirit was warm and magnetic and she left everyone feeling just a little bit better. Her legacy is one of faith, humor, generosity, and deep, enduring love. She will be missed beyond words—and remembered in every card, every garden bloom, every shared meal, and every story told.
