John F. Marshall, age 73, of Mayfield, KY passed away Tuesday, January 28, 2025 at the Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO.

He retired as Forester from Westvaco after 43 years. John was a member of the First United Methodist Church for 51 years and served his church in many capacities. He enjoyed woodworking and loved sharing his projects with friends and family. He was an avid outdoorsman and a day on the lake fishing was always one of his favorites. His three grandsons brought him the most joy! He enjoyed playing with them, building with them, cheering them on from the sidelines, and teaching them to fish. John truly had a servant’s heart and enjoyed serving alongside his church family.

John is survived by his wife of 52 years, Marliyn Bryan Marshall; one son, Tommy (Carlye) Marshall of Jackson, MO; one daughter, Katie (Ryan) Graves of Mayfield, KY; one brother, Jennings (Nancy) Marshall of Harrodsburg, KY; one sister, Marianna (Glenn) McDonald of Lexington, KY; and three grandchildren, Eli Graves, Harper Graves, and Grady Marshall.

He was preceded in death by his parents Dr. J.B. and Altona Marshall.

A funeral service is scheduled for 2:00 PM Sunday, February 2, 2025 at the Byrn Funeral Home in Mayfield, KY. Rev. Adam Rush and Rev. Mark Stephens will officiate. Interment will follow in the Robbins Cemetery in Mayfield, KY. Ryan Graves, Eli Graves, Harper Graves, Grady Marshall, Mike Turley and Robert Ellison will serve as pallbearers. Visitation will be held from 12:00 PM until 2:00 PM Sunday, February 2, 2025 at the funeral home.
