Dolores A. Samson, 84, of Benton, Kentucky, passed away at her home on Wednesday, January 22, 2025.

Dolores was born in El Reno, Oklahoma, on January 28, 1940, to the late Charles Peterka and Geraldine James Peterka. Dolores’ early years were spent amongst books and the quietude of a library, fostering a lifelong passion for reading and knowledge. She dedicated much of her professional life to serving others as a Social Worker in the Welfare Department for the State of Montana. Her compassionate spirit touched the lives of many, earning her a circle of close and cherished friends. Her work was paralleled only by her devotion to her faith as a long-standing New Harmony Baptist Church member.

An adventurous soul, Dolores found joy in traveling and fishing alongside her beloved husband. Her hands were always ready to nurture and provide, and she skillfully managed the family farm, cared for the livestock, and tended to her vegetable garden. The fruits of her labor were preserved in the countless jars of canned produce she lovingly prepared. Dolores’ home was filled with the melodies of classic country music and her kind spirit. Above all, her role as an amazing wife and mother was where she shined brightest, raising her family with abundant love and care.

She is survived by her five daughters, Jerri Grogan (Larry) of Michigan, Susan Gregg of Colorado, Lori Smith of Michigan, Bobbi Blackwell of New Jersey, and Rebecca Blackwell of Benton, Kentucky; one sister, Judy Peterka (William Barlow) of Arizona; seven grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Sam Samson; and her parents, Charles Peterka and Geraldine “Jerri” Peterka.

Visitation will be held from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM on Monday, January 27, 2025, at New Harmony Baptist Church in Benton.
