
Daniel Irving Leatherwood, “Danny” and “Dan,” was born in Waynesville, North Carolina to Irving and Polly Leatherwood on November 6th, 1945. He passed away on Saturday, January 11th, 2025, in Murray, Kentucky.
Mr. Leatherwood attended Waynesville High School where he played football and was a part of the 1964 state championship team. He served two tours in Vietnam as a Green Beret, and pursued a career in sales and marketing in the trucking business from which he eventually retired.
Dan loved golf as well as gun and knife collecting. A proud Christian veteran, he was a member of the NRA and Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He loved his home, family, and mountains in North Carolina, and was a devoted husband to his wife, Roxie Leatherwood.
Dan is survived by his wife, Roxie Leatherwood of Murray; five sons and two daughters: Ben, Chad, Luke, Jacob, Caleb, Keeley Gonzalez and Danielle Thorne. He also leaves behind his two older brothers, Keith and Mike Leatherwood of Waynesville, North Carolina, as well as 18 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 12 pm on Saturday, January 18, 2025 at Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 602 S. 16th Street, Murray, KY 42071.
