Catherine “Cathy” Marie Martin – Gilbertsville, KY
Catherine “Cathy” Marie Martin, 79, entered into the presence of the Lord on December 11th, 2024. Cathy was born on January 31st, 1945 in Bloomington, IL to the late Josephine (Ollie) Benedict and Olin (Geraldine) Spencer.
Cathy graduated from Atlanta High School and Illinois State University with a masters degree in education.
She married David Martin on August 23rd, 1973 in Bloomington. He preceded her in death.
Cathy was a lifelong teacher. She taught for 55+ years, retiring from both Bloomington District 87 – Bent School and Marshall County School District- North Marshall Middle School in Calvert City, KY.
As a devoted follower of Christ, Cathy was a member of East Marshall Baptist Church. Here she combined her love of Jesus and teaching. She taught Sunday school, sang in the choir, and wore many other hats through the years.
Survivors include brothers John (Gay) Spencer Gilbertsville, KY, and Roy (Jenni) Spencer Bloomington, IL; sister Becky Landis, Normal, IL. Children Jeff Martin Normal, IL, Christine Gauwitz Peoria, IL, Sondra (Charlie) Merrell Von Ormy, TX, and Allen (Melissa) Martin Lake City, FL. She also leaves behind 9 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, a special niece Brenda (Hal) Hendrickson, nieces, nephews, and many loving family and friends.

Funeral service will be held at East Marshall Baptist Church on Monday, December 16, 2024 at 1:00 p.m., Bro. Steve Freeman officiating.
Interment will follow in the Marshall County Memory Gardens, Benton, KY.
Visitation will be held between the hours of 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. on Monday, December 16, 2024 at East Marshall Baptist Church, 6324 Moors Camp Hwy Gilbertsville, KY 42044.
