Skylar Waller signed her National Letter of Intent on Tuesday at Marshall County High School to continue her basketball career for the Southeastern University Fire in Lakeland, Florida.
Head Coach Aaron Beth said Skylar is “a talented and resilient basketball player” and throughout her time as a Lady Marshal has earned a reputation as one of the most competitive and hardest-working players to step onto the court.
Despite facing multiple injuries, Skylar has never wavered in her commitment to the game, making a full recovery each time and returning stronger than ever. Her resilience and leadership have earned her the admiration of teammates, coaches, and fans alike.
“Signing with Southeastern University is a dream come true”, said Skylar. “It hasn’t been an easy road, but every challenge has made me stronger and more determined. I’m grateful for the opportunity to continue my basketball career at the collegiate level and I’m excited to join such a supportive and competitive program.”
Skylar’s journey has been marked by her perseverance through adversity. After undergoing three surgeries during her high school career, she has emerged as an even more determined athlete, a testament to her incredible mental toughness and passion for the game. Her ability to overcome setbacks and stay focused on her goals has made her a role model to others both on and off the court.
Skylar received KHSAA best free throw percentage in the state in 2021. She has been a member of the All-Purchase Team for two years, Regional All-Tournament Team two years and District All-Tournament Team for four years. She scored her 1,000th point her freshman year. Last season she was a member of the Tom Leach All-Resilience Team and awarded the Rise Up Cassidy Rowe Courage Award.
In addition to basketball, Skylar lettered in golf where she was a member of three regional championships and back-to-back state runner-up teams. She is a two-time member of the First Team All-Region golf team.
“Skylar is one of the most determined and competitive players I have ever coached,” said Beth. Her resilience is unmatched. To see her not only recover from three surgeries but also continue to excel at the highest level of competition is nothing short of inspiring. She is a true leader, and I have no doubt she will make an immediate impact at Southeastern University.”
