He was a retired employee of Goodyear. He spent his retirement DoorDashing, having completed over 20,000 deliveries. Hal enjoyed watching his grandchildren’s sporting events.
Mr. Cates is survived by his mother, Mary Sue Doran Cates of Sedalia, KY; one son, Karson Ray Cates of Mayfield, KY; two daughters, Corie (Dustin) Young and Kayla (Kyle) Turner both of Mayfield, KY; one stepson, Kameron Conley of Sunfield, MI; one brother, Mike (Jennifer) Cates of Sedalia, KY; one sister, Mary Beth Cates of Sedalia, KY; four grandchildren, Coleman Amis, Emma Cate Young, Nora Cate Turner and Corbin Young; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Vernon Ray “Dip” Cates.
Funeral services for Mr. Hal Ray Cates will be 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 24, 2024 at Byrn Funeral Home in Mayfield, KY. Rev. Spence Pate will officiate.
Visitation will be 5:00 – 8:00 P.M. on Wednesday, October 23, 2024 at the funeral home.
