Local mountain bike teams enjoyed a “home” race when they hosted Race #4 of the Kentucky Interscholastic Cycling League at the Livingston County Trail System on Sunday. Teams and supporters from across the state enjoyed a beautiful fall day of mountain bike racing as 182 riders from middle school to high school took to the challenging trails.
Marshall County, Livingston County Composite and McCracken County teams had a successful race day in front of a large crowd of their local fans. After four of the five races in the series, Marshall County is in third, McCracken County is fourth and Livingston County Composite is ninth among the field of 18 teams in the league. Hardin-Elizabethtown Composite is in first.
Three Marshall County riders are currently in the top three in the overall series heading into the State Championship on October 27 at the Rudy Mine Trails in Owensboro. Brady Atkins is in first in the Varsity Boys division, Emma Roberts is second in JV Girls and Emalee Downs second in Sophomore Girls.
Top high school division finishes for the Marshall County team on Sunday came from Brady Atkins with fourth in Varsity Boys, Emma Roberts second in JV Girls and Amelia Miller third in 9th Grade Girls.
Livingston County top finishers in the high school division were Graham Rhea with fourth in 10th Grade Boys and two fourth place finishes by Danika Akins in 9th Grade Girls and Sam Eichelberger in 9th Grade Boys. McCracken County’s Braden French took first and Eli Glisson second in the JV Boys race. Gavin Vance placed third in 10th Grade Boys.
High school division riders navigated a 3.88-mile lap. Varsity Boys completed four laps, Varsity Girls, JV Boys, 10th Grade Boys and 10th Grade Girls did three laps and the 9th Grade divisions did two laps.
