
Area Pickleball Players traveled to Owensboro, Ky. to participate in the 2024 River City Open presented by Visit Owensboro on October 10-13. There were 332 players competing on 14 courts with tennis court surface at the Merchant Centre Court Indoors. Divisions included 3.0, 3.5, 4.0, 4.5 and 5.0 in Women’s Doubles, Men’s Doubles and Mixed Doubles.
This is one of a handful of tournaments within a few hundred miles that offer 60+ and 70+ age divisions. This was a prize money payout for the 5.0 and up division. Kayle Travis and Haley Jamison won $100 each for winning Silver in Women’s Doubles 5.0 Division, Gold was awarded $300 each. This was the first ever pickleball medal for Chad Latta, Hunter Archer and Russ Moore. Hunter has only been playing for a few months. Latta and Archer’s 3.0 Men’s Doubles game and Ricky and Dannette Baker’s 3.5 Mixed Doubles game difference between winning Gold or Silver was only decided by 2 points.
