William “Roy” Barrett, 80, of Calvert City, Kentucky, passed away on Sunday, September 15, 2024.
Roy was born on April 28, 1944, in Marshall County, Kentucky to the late Robert Barrett and Fannie Smith Barrett. He was not a stranger to hard work. Earlier in his life, he worked as a self-employed brick mason and a tobacco farmer. Eventually, Roy had the opportunity to go work at a manufacturing plant in Calvert City where he worked for many years as an operator at AIRCO, currently known as Carbide Industries. Roy loved the outdoors, which was reflected in most of his hobbies. He enjoyed spending time on the lake fishing, boating, hunting, and camping. He also really enjoyed traveling and taking cruises with his wife and family. Many people also knew Roy for his many years of spreading the joy of Christmas during the holidays. Each year, over a month in advance, Roy would spend countless hours hand-making and putting out his large outdoor Christmas display, which people lined up to see year after year. More than anything else, Roy loved the Lord and his family. He was a member of Little Cypress Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Bettie Sue Ross Barrett; one son, Chris Barrett and wife Heike of Smyrna, Tennessee; two sisters, Mildren Emerson of Calvert City and Emma Peal of Benton; four grandchildren, Kevin Barrett, Melissa Barrett, Marie Dominguez, and Sue Dominguez; eight great-grandchildren, Isabel Dominguez, Kevin Dominguez, Jose Dominguez, David Dominguez, Alejandro Dominguez, Armando Dominguez, Santos Dominguez, and Anthony Dominguez; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one son, David Dunn; two sisters, Louise Brandon and Peggy Colson; three brothers, Lawrence Barrett, Jewell Barrett, and Larry Barrett; and his parents, Robert and Fannie Barrett.
