Only twice this season has a team scored more than one goal against Murray. Thursday at Colburn Field the Marshals scored three goals but the Tigers, one of the top five teams in the state, doubled that output and beat the Marshals 6-3 to earn the district sweep. Murray remains undefeated with a record of 12-0 and 6-0 in the district while the Marshals fall to 4-5-1 and 1-4 in district play.
Just under eight minutes into Thursday’s rain drenched game covered in the remnants of tropical storm Francine, the Marshals struck first on a goal that found the net off the back of sophomore Davis Hunt.
At the halfway point of the first half, Max Rosa scored the equalizer before two quick goals followed by Nate Wyatt and Kellen Crouch to put the Tigers up 3-1. Murray had an opportunity for a fourth goal following a yellow card on Marshall County goalkeeper Carson Lovett. The penalty kick near the 18-yard mark missed to the left.
The Marshals closed out the first half with a rush of pressure around the goal, making several attempts to find the net before time expired.

Early in the second half, Crouch scored to put the Tigers up 4-1 before the Marshals put one more up on an own goal off a Murray player.
Crouch scored again to earn the hat trick and put the Tigers up 5-2. With just over 13 minutes remaining, Isaac Reynolds converted a penalty kick for the Marshals to trim the Murray lead again to 5-3.
The final goal of the night for Murray came on a penalty kick in the box scored by Wyatt.
Each team was shown the yellow card three times throughout the game. Murray took 18 total shots with 10 on goal, the Marshals had nine shots with eight of those on goal. Lovett had three saves and Murray’s Hank Fronza had five.
Marshall County will play two games on Saturday at Madisonville-North Hopkins. They will take on the Maroons (7-5) at 10:00 a.m. and South Warren (5-3-2) at 4:00.
