On July 15, 2024, at approximately 3:14 PM, a McCracken County Sheriff’s Office Deputy responded to the 300 block of Oaks Road for a physical disturbance. As the deputy was arriving, he observed a male threatening a female with a large knife.
Immediately upon the deputy exiting his vehicle, the male, later identified as John Taber, began moving towards the deputy with the knife. After a short period of time, the deputy, along with other deputies and an officer from Paducah Police Department, were able to take Taber into custody.
As deputies investigated the origins of the fight, they discovered that Taber had superficially stabbed his mother with the knife. She was treated and released by Mercy Regional Ambulance Service.
Taber, 21 years old of Paducah, KY, was lodged in the McCracken County Jail. Taber was charged with Assault 2nd Domestic Violence, Menacing (two counts), Wanton Endangerment 1st Degree (police officer), Resisting Arrest, and Disorderly Conduct 2nd Degree.
More criminal charges are possible as the investigation continues.
At the time of this release, a photograph of Taber was not available. To obtain a photograph, please contact the McCracken County Jail.
The McCracken County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Paducah Police Department and Mercy Regional Ambulance Service.
