LYON COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE MEDIA RELEASE
- The Sheriff’s Office is seeking help from the public to combat sign thefts. On Monday, June 10, 2024, around 12pm, the Sheriff’s Office received reports of multiple county road signs stolen off Travis Road in magistrate district # 3. In addition, on Saturday, around 2:40am, the Sheriff’s Office received a report of someone stealing the KY State Penitentiary sign at the intersection of KY 93 South and KY 730 West in magistrate district # 1. These reports follow multiple incidents of county road sign thefts off KY 93 South in March of 2024. If anyone has information concerning the identity of these offenders and/or location of these stolen road signs, you are asked to call the Sheriff’s Office at 270.388.2311.
Sheriff White stated, “Beyond the added cost to taxpayers for the loss of these signs, such as a stop sign, warning sign, or even a county road sign, their absence can cause serious physical injury and even death in a collision. In addition, the seconds and minutes lost by first responders trying to locate certain roadways and/or going into an intersection without appropriate warnings can have dire consequences. We will work with our county and commonwealth attorneys in order to prosecute whomever is committing these senseless thefts.”
