
John Bob Padgitt, 95, of Paducah, Kentucky passed away at 8:01 a.m. Thursday, May 16, 2024 at his residence. He was born in Paducah on November 11, 1928 to the late Robert Whitnell Padgitt and Mary Wells Padgitt. John Bob was the longest living member of Lone Oak United Methodist Church and sang in the choir until he was 88, when his health forced him to “retire”. He was a member of the Barbershop Harmony Society, formerly SPEBSQSA, for over 60 years. John Bob sang baratone in multiple quartets and choruses with his brother, Marvin, Don Parker and Bob Sanderson among others. He retired from Coca-Cola Bottling after 46 years and became an avid gardener. John Bob was the Captain of his Lone Oak High School Basketball team and continued his love of the sport watching University of Kentucky Wildcats.
His greatest achievements was being a devoted husband, father and grandfather. A special thanks to his niece and nephew, Linda and David Walker and his other neighbors, Nelda McDaniel, Kathy and Harold Woodall for all their care and daily help.
John Bob is survived by his daughter, Diane Dodson of Paducah, Kentucky; son, Kenneth Padgitt and wife, Kathy of Smyrna, Tennessee; three grandchildren, Megan Gasser and husband, Scott of Taylorsville, Kentucky, Melissa Padgitt of Smyrna, Tennessee, Paige Dodson of Louisville, Kentucky and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Virginia Edith Hinchey Padgitt; son-in-law, James “Jim” Dodson; sister, Louise Padgitt Wickliffe; two brothers, Harry Wells Padgitt and Marvin Padgett.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. Monday, May 20, 2024 at the Lone Oak Chapel of Milner & Orr Funeral Home with Pastor Sherry Golightly officiating. Private burial will be held at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.
