Marshals win streak extends to 10 games

Head Coach Tyler O’Daniel meets with the Marshall County infield after Carlisle County loaded the bases with one out in the top of the first inning on Thursday at Preston Cope Field.

Trailing 2-0 in the top of the first inning, senior Murray State commit Reese Oakley faced one out and the bases loaded. He proceeded to strike out the next batter up and a ball hit to first baseman Gavin Clark for the third out was the start of the Marshals earning their 10th consecutive win 5-3 over Carlisle County.

Maddox Cope hit a two-run single in the bottom of the second to tie the game at 2-2. They went up 3-2 in the bottom of the third after loading up the bases and getting a run across the plate by Clayton Wyatt who scored on a wild pitch.

Reese Oakley picked up the win over Carlisle County, striking out eight, giving up six hits and two earned runs over five innings.

The Comets tied the game up again in the top of the fifth, scoring off a single by Koltyn Perez. The Marshals grabbed the lead back in the bottom of the inning, Wyatt beating out the throw to home plate after a bunt by Kannon Dunn.

In the bottom of the sixth, Oakley led off with a double, Jace Driver singled and Cope loaded up the bases after he was hit by a pitch. Oakley scored on a wild pitch which gave the Marshals a 5-3 lead that held up to extend their win streak to 10.

Oakley gave up six hits, two earned of three runs, striking out eight and walking three on his way to earn the win over five innings. The save went to Driver, striking out four and giving up two hits. He currently ranks second in the state in saves with five over 14 games, tied with Andrew Little from Letcher County Central ranked first with five over 10 games.

Clayton Wyatt was called out advancing to third base on a double play by Carlisle County, the throw from first to third baseman Lawsin Moore.

Tuesday, the Marshals beat Trigg County (7-14) 10-0 in six innings. A huge eight run first inning put the Wildcats on their heels early.

The Marshals eight runs scored on a double by Reese Oakley, sacrifice fly balls hit by Preston Holman and Gavin Clark, Matthew Henderson scored on a wild pitch, two-run single by Clayton Wyatt and two runs crossed the plate on a passed ball.

Henderson crossed home plate again in the bottom of the third on a line drive out hit by Chase Shelton for a 9-0 lead. The 10th run of the night came in on a bases loaded walk drawn by Gavin Clark.

Bagby pitched the first three innings, striking out six and giving up three hits to earn the win.
