Stephen Mart Son, 74 of Benton, Kentucky passed away on Thursday, February 22, 2024 at Lake Way Nursing & Rehabilitation.
Stephen was born in Henderson, Kentucky on March 4, 1949 to the late Malcolm Son and Kathleen Patterson Son. He taught math collectively for 45 years. Of those years, he spent 30 years teaching at Marshall County High School, 12 at Dyersburg Community College, 2 at Glasgow High School and 1 at WKCTC. Stephen was the first soccer coach at Marshall County High School and lead the team to the first final four in 1989. He was a longtime public address announcer for the MCHS basketball and football games. Stephen sang the national anthem for many sporting events and also sang with the praise team at Hardin Baptist Church where he was a member. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and family.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Vickie Seaford Son; two sons, John David Son, wife Lauren of Litchfield, New Hampshire and Martin Son, wife Cheryl of Troy, Illinois; brother, Alan Son of Lexington, Kentucky; sister, Donna Parker, husband Dale of Indianapolis, Indiana; and four grandchildren, Parker Son, Abigail Son, Brylee Son and Hannah Son.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, February 24, 2024 at Collier Funeral Home with Bro. Ricky Cunningham officiating. Interment will follow at Hardin Baptist Church Cemetery, Hardin, KY.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Friday, February 23, 2024 at Collier Funeral Home, 211 West 5th, Benton, Kentucky.
