Esther Cotton Martin, age 91, of Cadiz, Kentucky, passed away Monday, February 12, 2024, at her home.
She was born October 27, 1932, in the Lamasco community of Lyon County, Kentucky, the daughter of the late Ira and Pansy (Rogers) Cotton.
A 1950 graduate of Lyon County High School, she married Duran “Frosty” Martin on August 6, 1955, making their home in northern Trigg County, where Esther helped her husband with the daily work on the farm and tended to their garden. A devoted wife and mother, she worked tirelessly to provide a home filled with love for her family and cared deeply for her friends and neighbors. Outside of the home, she was employed at Thomas Industries where she worked as a personnel administrator, eventually retiring with 42 years of dedicated service. After her retirement she took a much more active role in the family farming operations, working alongside her husband and son, doing everything from checking cattle and handling tobacco, to bookkeeping and tax preparation.
Esther was a faithful and active member of Hurricane Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School and assisted with Vacation Bible School in the summers. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandsons, and was an avid University of Kentucky basketball fan.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, William Preston Cotton, and her beloved husband of nearly 62 years, Duran “Frosty” Martin, Sr., on March 30, 2017.
She is survived by her daughter, Relma Martin Miller and her husband David, of South Jordan, Utah, her son, D.M. Martin and his wife Jennifer, of Cadiz, and her grandsons, Caleb Martin and Daniel Martin.
