On Saturday, Jan. 27, Christian Fellowship’s Gracie Howard scored her 3,000th career point in the Lady Eagles game against Portland Christian. In two games this week, Howard scored 39 points in their 75-59 loss to Calloway County and in Thursday’s 64-47 win over St. Mary she scored 44 points.
Howard is now closing in on the First Region all-time scoring record set by Paducah Tilghman’s Chelsey Shumpert in the 2012-2013 season. She currently has 3,089 points, just 12 points away from breaking Shumpert’s record of 3,100 and will likely set the new mark on Monday when the Lady Eagles host Carlisle County.
Tuesday at home against Calloway County, Howard’s 39-point game led the Lady Eagles in their 16-point loss, a much better outcome than their 42-point loss to the Lady Lakers on January 22. The Lady Eagles hit five threes in the game, Howard with three and Ava Ryan had two. Salyer Lowe led Calloway County with 34 points.
In Thursday’s win at St. Mary, Howard and Ryan again combined for five three pointers. Howard dropped in three and Ryan had two. At the free throw line, Howard hit 13 of 15 attempts in her 44-point game. Two players reached double figures in rebounding. Ryan finished with 11 and Kyndal Owen had 10.
Howard is currently third on the state’s scoring leaders list with 595 points with an average of 28.3 per game.
