Reese Oakley signs to play baseball at Murray State University

Reese Oakley was joined on his signing day by family members (L-R) Marin Oakley, Shelley Oakley and Barry Oakley.

Reese Oakley signed on Wednesday at Marshall County High School to continue his baseball career at Murray State University. Last season as a first-year member of the Missouri Valley Conference, the Racers finished 31-28 under Head Coach Dan Skirka.

Heading into his senior season this spring, Reese has played 65 games while making an appearance on the mound in 25 of those games with seven wins and six losses. In just three years, Reese has accumulated 115 strikeouts over 97.1 innings.

Reese’s sophomore season was a breakout year as the number two guy in the rotation, throwing 53.1 innings and striking out 58 while only walking 20. Finishing the year with a 2.49 ERA, Reese helped lead the Marshals to a district championship and the first regional runner-up since the 2017 season.

As a junior, Reese averaged more than one strikeout per inning and remained an integral part of the pitching rotation.

Moving into the 2024 season, Head Coach Tyler O’Daniel will be looking for Reese to continue being a chief player, just as he has for the last three years. Reese has been selected to the All-District and All-Region Teams, WPSD/Biokinetics Athlete of the Week and has been a major part of three district championships, a regional runner-up with hopes of a regional title and trip to Lexington in 2024.

On top of all his athletic accomplishments and accolades, Reese has maintained a 3.41 GPA.

“As a program, we are so proud of Reese for accomplishing his dream of playing Division 1 baseball for Murray State University and I know that he will make a lasting positive impact on Racer Baseball, just as he has for the Marshals”, O’Daniel said. “Congratulations to Reese, his family and his teammates on an unfinished, but already successful career and we look forward to seeing you throw smoke at Murray State.”

Reese was joined at his signing by his coaches, teammates and friends.
