
Winter weather put a hold on things this week, but basketball was back underway on Friday at Reed Conder Gymnasium when Marshall County hosted 4th District foe Calloway County.
The Lady Marshals beat the Lady Lakers 49-40 to remain unbeaten in district games at 3-0. The win was the 14th straight over Calloway County for the Lady Marshals and they improve to 12-5 overall. The Lady Lakers picked up their fifth loss of the season and are 14-5 and 1-1 in district games.
Senior Chevelle Henson scored a season high 21 points to lead the Lady Marshals. Sophomore Salyer Lowe led the Lady Lakers with 20 points.
A 6-2 start by Calloway County was cut to one point on a three pointer by Kenzlee Terry but the Lady Lakers went back up 11-5 prompting a time out from Lady Marshals Head Coach Aaron Beth. Out of the time out, the Lady Marshals put together a 6-0 run to tie the game at 11-11.

Henson’s free throws tied the game and she proceeded to hit the next field goal while drawing a foul to put the Lady Marshals up 14-11. Lowe tied the game at 14 on three pointer but a field goal by Terry ended the quarter on a 16-14 Lady Marshals lead.
Sophomore Jaidan Koch had 10 of Calloway County’s 12 second quarter points and they outscored the Lady Marshals by four to take a 26-24 lead at halftime.
Calloway County gained a six-point lead in the third quarter following a basket by Lowe, drawing the foul and converting the free throw. Henson scored the next four points for Marshall County to cut the lead down to two points and the quarter ended on a long pass from Skylar Waller to Terry who dropped it in to tie the game up at 36-36.
Lexi McClure and Lowe scored the first four points of the fourth quarter to put the Lady Lakers back up by four. The Lady Marshals gained the lead back at 41-40 on a timely three by Rylan Darnell and basket by Terry.
Henson scored and Waller hit a three to give the Lady Marshals a six-point lead and they finished out the 9-0 run on free throws by Terry to pick up the 49-40 district win.
