Christian Fellowship School honors local Veterans

Mrs. Cheryl Hammons, Christian’s Fellowship’s High School History teacher, introduces veterans Mr. Mike Scholl, Mr. Kevin Neal, and Mrs. Paulette Buckingham. Mr. Scholl and his service dog, Pablo, and Mr. Neal are security officers at CFS. Mrs. Buckingham is a retired teacher of CFS and continues to substitute when needed.

On Thursday, November 9, at Christian Fellowship School, Mrs. Cheryl Hammons’ history club honored local veterans with a Veterans Day Ceremony. Senior Madeline Lockhart introduced the program, “Today, we come together as a school and community to honor and remember those who’ve dedicated their lives to safeguarding our freedoms.”

Hadley Davis told the story of Francis Scott Key’s inspiration to write The Star-Spangled Banner. Emma Jones sang The Star-Spangled Banner. Faith Tarnowski shared the story of the song “Battle Hymn of the Republic” and introduced the guest speaker Mr. Kevin Neal. Mr. Neal served 20-plus years in the Marines from February 1990 to April 2011. Mr. Neal’s career consisted of the infantry within the sniper community, where he attended all the sniper schools available. He retired from the Marines as a gunnery sergeant. Mr. Neal shared his experience in the Marines and his love for our country.

Each veteran was greeted by students, thanking them for their service. Elementary students decorated the foyer with artwork for the veterans. Middle and high school students prepared gift bags and refreshments. Veterans were honored and thanked for their service.
