
Marshall County’s boys golf team wrapped up the KHSAA Boys’ State Golf Championship on Saturday and finished fifth best in the state. The Marshals finished the two rounds at +70 with a final tournament score of 318-328/646 and improved one spot from their sixth-place finish last season.
Madison Central led from start to finish to take the state title, finishing +27 (295-308/603). South Oldham finished runner-up at +39 (302-313/615), St. Xavier was third at +49 (315-310/625) and Greenwood finished fourth at +63 (318-321/639).
Ryan Stokes shot the low round of the day on Saturday for the Marshals. Stokes finished with a 5-over par 77 and finished the two-day tournament at 8-over par (75-77/152). DJ Morris shot 10-over par (74-80/154) for the two days and finished tied for 20th.
Paxton Carter tied for 59th at +22 (83-83/166). Nolan Hurst and Andy Jones tied again on day two and finished the tournament at +30 (86-88/174) with identical scores.
Brady Smith from Christian Academy-Louisville had a seven-stroke lead heading into Saturday’s final round. Smith maintained his lead and finished 8-under par (65-71/136) to win the individual state title by seven strokes over Tyler Wirth of Oldham County.
