Jesse “Catfish” Dean Russell, 87 of Benton, KY died on Monday, September 18, 2023, at his residence.
Born Thursday, July 30, 1936 in Stonefort, IL, he was the son of the late Bartley Russell and the late Julia Russell.
He was a veteran of the US Army and later became a Millwright Mechanic at Inland Steel. Catfish was passionate about fishing which is how he earned his nickname. He was a member of Abundant Life Worship Center.
He is survived by his sons, Edwin Russell wife Brandi of Hickory, KY, Alan Russell wife Patricia of Lebanon, TN; daughters, Tina Lawrence husband Troy of Lebanon, TN, Julie Watson of Chickamauga, GA, Amanda Oster of Falls of Rough, KY; 13 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; special friend, Juanita Russell; and brothers, Jimmie Russell, Austin Russell and John Russell.
A Funeral service will be at 12:00 PM on Friday, September 22, 2023 at Collier Funeral Chapel located at 211 West 5th St., Benton, KY 42025 with the Rev. Lynn McWherter officiating.
Pallbearers will be Edwin Russell, Alan Russell, Mason Russell, David Bush, Will Estes and Jim Miller. Honorary pallbearers will be Rick Nance, Tami Nance and Kris Nance.
Burial will be at 3:00 PM Friday, September 22, 2023 in Salem Cemetery in Carrier Mills, IL.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM on Friday, September 22, 2023, at Collier Funeral Home.
