September 9, 10am-1pm | Blacksmithing – Homeplace

It’s hammer time at the 1850s farm! We will be demonstrating historical methods of blacksmithing on a bellows operated charcoal forge. Learn about metallurgy during the mid-1800’s and explore how a farmer would repair and replace broken and damaged tools.

September 16, 1:30-2:15pm | Bounty of Butterflies – Nature Station

September is one of the most diverse times to see butterflies in LBL. Learn your butterflies from our naturalists in our pollinator gardens.

September 16, 10am-12pm | Roast Duck – Homeplace

While duck meat isn’t as common in the average person’s diet today, people in the 1850s kept and ate ducks regularly in order to supplement their diets with both their eggs and their meat. Come join me while I cook up a duck following an 1850s recipe.

September 23, 1:30-2pm | Animals of the Forest Puppet Show – Nature Station

Come join our animal puppet pals for an interactive show and an up-close encounter with a live animal. We will be learning about habitats, adaptations, and plant life cycles.

September 30, 11am-12:30pm | Tree-mendous Hike – Nature Station

Land Between the Lakes has a large diversity of trees! Learn some simple tips and techniques on how to identify the trees in your own backyard while you join a naturalist on a 1-mile guided hike. Program free to LBL visitors and meets in front of Nature Station.

September 30, 1:30-3pm | Making Soap – Homeplace

In the 1850s, they would make their own soap regularly in order to keep their dishes and themselves clean. Come join us today while we make some lye soap out on the farm.
