On 08/23/23 just after 3:00 PM, detectives with the drug division pulled onto the parking lot of a gas station located at 3474 Wayne Sullivan Drive to get gas. While parked at the gas pumps, a detective observed another motorist inside his own vehicle snorting something through a dollar bill. The vehicle then pulled away. Detectives conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle and identified the driver as 32-year-old Benjamin Woods of Fancy Farm, KY. A roadside investigation revealed that Woods had just snorted a Fentanyl pill. Additional Fentanyl pills were located inside the vehicle. Driver’s license records revealed that Woods was required to use a vehicle with an interlock device because of a previous DUI. The vehicle Woods was operating was not equipped with an interlock device. Benjamin Woods was arrested.
The investigation revealed that Woods had just purchased the Fentanyl pills from 49-year-old David Mitchell of McCracken County. Through surveillance, detectives located Mitchell that same afternoon at the same gas station where Woods was arrested. Mitchell was also found in possession of additional Fentanyl pills at the time of his arrest.
Detectives executed a search warrant at Mitchell’s residence, 2325 Hovekamp Rd. During a search of the home, detectives located Marijuana packaged for sale, scales, and assorted drug paraphernalia.
Both men were arrested and lodged in the McCracken County Regional Jail.
