Marshals tally three straight wins heading into final week of the regular season

Ethan Landis had seven hits for the Marshals in their last three wins, including a double, two triples and drove in two runs.

A successful weekend for the Marshals began on Friday against Mayfield with a 7-5 win over the Cardinals. They picked up two more wins on Saturday starting with a 9-3 win over Graves County followed by a 4-0 win over Union County.

The Marshals enter their final week of regular season games before their May 16 game in the 4th District Tournament. As the #1 seed, the Marshals will play the winner of the Murray and Calloway County game on May 15 at Murray High.

Friday at home against Mayfield, the Marshals early 2-0 lead, both runs on a double hit by Alex Staples, was tied when the Cardinals scored their first two of the game in the bottom of the third inning.

In the top of the fourth, the Marshals went back up 5-2. With two on base, a single by Ethan Landis was followed by a couple of Mayfield errors that brought in the three runs. Mayfield added a run in the bottom of the fifth and tied the game at 5-5 in the bottom of the sixth.

Gavin Clark drew a walk to start the top of the seventh and Jace Driver reached on an error. Courtesy runner Clayton Wyatt stole home to give the Marshals a 1-run lead and a triple by Carter McKinney scored Driver for the 7-2 win.

The win was picked up by Chase Hayden who pitched the final two innings, allowing no hits, no runs with three strikeouts.

Carter McKinney hit two triples among his four hits and had four RBIs combined in the Marshals three wins over the weekend.

A 6-run top of the sixth for the Marshals against Graves County broke a 3-3 tie in their 9-3 win on nine hits.

A bunt by Alex Staples brought in the first run of the game in the top of the third and they drove in two more in the top of the fourth on a triple by Carter McKinney. Graves County tied it 3-3 with a 3-run bottom of the inning.

Reese Oakley and Jace Driver kicked off the top of the sixth with singles and an intentional walk to McKinney loaded up the bases. Gavin Clark cleared the bases with a double to put the Marshals up 6-3 and they added three more runs on an error, Chase Shelton brought a run in and a double by Staples scored the final run of the game.

Jace Driver earned the win, giving up two hits and striking out six over three innings.

Alex Staples hit a double in each of the Marshals three wins over the weekend and had a combined four RBIs.

In the second game on Saturday, the Marshals 4-0 shutout over Union County began on a leadoff triple by Ethan Landis, walk by Chase Shelton and single by Alex Staples that brought Landis in for a 1-0 lead.

The Marshals added one more run in the bottom of the second inning when Maddox Cope scored on a second straight triple by Landis. In the fourth inning, a sacrifice by Cope moved Jace Driver, who reached on a walk, over to third base and he scored the Marshals third run when Kannon Dunn grounded out.

Carter McKinney drove in Shelton in the fifth inning for the Marshals final run of the game and Bagby picked up the win, striking out six and giving up four hits over six innings.
