Hitting was on display when Marshall County played Carlisle County on Thursday. The Lady Marshals finished with 10 runs on 10 hits but it wasn’t enough to come out with the win. The Lady Comets racked up 13 runs on 13 hits for the 13-10 win.
At the end of the first inning, the score was 3-3. Carlisle County’s Shehorn, Thomason and Jones all drove in runs on 2-out singles. The Lady Marshals answered with three of their own, coming in on a 2-run double by Allicen Harris and a run scoring on an error.
The Lady Marshals took the lead with four more runs in the bottom of the second that began with a walk by Marin Oakley, single from Macy McLeod and Anna Vasseur reached on an error which gave Oakley the opportunity to score. After an intentional walk to Harris, Gracelyn Darnall stepped up and hit a 2-run double. Courtesy runner Emma Reynolds scored when Chevelle Henson grounded out and the lead was 7-3.
Carlisle County cut the Lady Marshals lead down to one with a 3-run top of the third, all coming on a 3-run home run by Alexis Jones.
Stretching their lead out once again in the bottom of the fifth, the Lady Marshals went up 10-6 on an Oakley double that scored two and courtesy runner Kenzlee Terry scored on a ground out hit by McLeod.
Carlisle County made the best of their final opportunity in the top of the seventh, scoring seven runs on a double, bases loaded walk, an error, single and another double.
The Lady Marshals will host Madisonville-North Hopkins (18-3) tonight, a team they lost to 6-3 on March 17. The Lady Maroons are ranked seventh this week in the Kentucky coach’s poll.
