Over the past week, the McCracken County Sheriff’s Office has fielded multiple reports regarding the theft of items from motor vehicles. The majority of the incidents occurred in the dense residential neighborhoods of the Lone Oak area of McCracken County.
Multiple video sources have shown a group of (4) to (5) individuals that appear to be younger males walking neighborhoods during the late overnight/early morning hours checking for unlocked vehicles. On all recordings, the individuals appear to be wearing dark colored clothing, hooded sweatshirts with the hoods pulled up and facial coverings/surgical masks. Upon finding an unlocked vehicle, the individuals will enter and search for any items of value. At this time, multiple thefts of money, electronics, credit/debit cards and other items have been reported as stolen to the Sheriff’s Office.
The McCracken County Sheriff’s Office requests the public’s assistance in deterring these criminals by following this simple routine (#9PMRoutine):
- REMOVE VALUABLES FROM VEHICLES
- LOCK VEHICLE DOORS
- CLOSE THE GARAGE DOOR
- CLOSE AND LOCK ALL EXTERIOR DOORS
- TURN ON AN EXTERIOR LIGHT
If anyone has any information regarding these thefts they are asked to contact the McCracken County Sheriff’s Department at 270-444-4719 or their local law enforcement agency. Tips may also be provided via West KY Crime Stoppers at 270-444-8355, texting “WKY” and the information to 8474111 or the WKY Crime Stoppers App.
