Early runs not enough in Lady Marshals loss to McCracken County

Marshall County’s Lady Marshals trailed McCracken County 4-3 after three innings and continued to get hits but left two stranded on base in each of the next four innings while the Lady Mustangs continued to drive in runs in their 15-3 win. Marshall County is still looking for that elusive first win over McCracken County who leads the all-time series 18-0.

Anna Kate Hawes earned the win for the Lady Mustangs. The junior allowed 11 hits and three runs over seven innings. Gracelyn Darnall pitched the first two innings for the Lady Marshals, allowing five hits and four runs. Allicen Harris allowed six hits and four runs over three innings and eighth grader Lilly Hayden wrapped up the final two, allowing five hits and seven runs.

Marin Oakley (3) scored the Lady Marshals first run of the game on a wild pitch in the bottom of the second inning.

McCracken County scored two runs to open the game, the first coming in on an error following a bunt by Mikaela Colburn and the second on a single by Karleigh Walker. They went up 4-0 in the second inning, one run crossing the plate following a passed ball and the other on a single from Ally Hutchins.

The Lady Marshals got one run on the board in the bottom of the second when Marin Oakley, who reached on a single, scored on a wild pitch. They cut the Lady Mustangs lead to one with two more runs in the bottom of the third, both coming on two outs. Allicen Harris hit a solo home run, her fourth of the season, and a double by Chevelle Henson drove in their third and what would be final run of the game for the Lady Marshals.

Leading 9-3 after six innings, McCracken County finished off the game with six more runs in the seventh and they improve to 16-3.
