Marshals win district game 4-3 over Calloway County

The Marshals took the first of two 4th District games against Calloway County with Tuesday’s 4-3 win at Preston Cope Field. Senior Carter McKinney had eight strike outs, allowed eight hits, two earned of three runs during his seven innings on the mound. Junior Chase Shelton had two of the Marshals seven hits and drove in one run.

Two runs in the bottom of the third were brought in on a sacrifice by junior Gavin Clark and a Chase Hayden single. They doubled their lead in the bottom of the fourth on a Shelton single and another sacrifice from Clark.

Calloway County cut the lead to 4-2 in the top of the fifth, both runs coming across the plate on a double by senior Cadwell Turner. The Lakers cut the Marshals lead to one in the top of the seventh when Cole Lockhart scored on an error but two base runners were left stranded with the final out of the game.

The two teams will meet again on Thursday at Calloway County. First pitch is at 5:30.
