Lady Marshals win two, drop one in Slugfest games

Gracelyn Darnall pitched two wins in the Lady Marshals last four games and over that time was 5-of-13 at the plate with a double and three RBIs.

The Lady Marshals went 3-1 over a busy 4-game swing Thursday through Saturday. It started with a 3-1 win over Graves County on Thursday. All three of their runs came in the fourth inning that began with a lead-off double by Gracelyn Darnall.

Chloe Coursey followed with a single and two runs scored with Marin Oakley at the plate. Darnall scored the first run on a wild pitch and Oakley drove in Coursey for a 2-0 lead. Run number three came after Anna Vasseur got on with a single, then a steal of second on an error also resulted in Coursey crossing the plate for the 3-0 lead.

The Lady Eagles avoided the shutout with a run in the bottom of the seventh.

Allicen Harris pitched the complete game win, striking out eight while allowing one hit and one run.

This weekend’s Marshall County Slugfest opened with a 3-2 loss for the Lady Marshals to 10-1 Ballard Memorial in their first of two games on Friday. A 3-0 Lady Bomber lead after the top of the third inning was cut to one with a 2-run bottom of the third by the Lady Marshals but the scoring ended there.

A double by Serenity Owens scored the first run for the Lady Bombers followed by another double from Maddy Parrott for a 2-0 lead in the top of the second. Johnna Riggs hit a home run over the left field fence to give them a 3-0 lead in the top of the third.

In the bottom of the third, the Lady Marshals two runs were drove in on singles by Anna Vasseur and Gracelyn Darnall. Madyson Morton hit a leadoff triple in the bottom of the fifth but was left stranded on a double play to end the inning.

Allicen Harris took the loss while allowing seven hits, three runs and striking out six.

Merriel Jackson had two hits that drove in three runs in the Lady Marshals 11-4 win over Christian County in the Marshall County Slugfest.

The loss to the Lady Bombers was followed up with a nice 11-4 win over Christian County on Friday. The Lady Marshals took a huge 10-0 lead after the first inning. It all began on a walk by Madyson Morton and single from Anna Vasseur that drove the first run in. Gracelyn Darnall hit an RBI single and a 2-run single from Merriel Jackson gave them a 4-0 lead.

The lead grew to 5-0 on a bases loaded walk from Morton then a flurry of runs came in on a wild pitch, error and two runs on a single from Vasseur to stretch it to 9-0. A single from Chloe Coursey scored the 10th run of the inning.

The final run in the 11-4 win for the Lady Marshals came in the bottom of the sixth when Chevelle Henson crossed the plate after a ground out by Jackson.

Gracelyn Darnall went the distance to earn the win, allowing eight hits, 4 runs and striking out one.

The Lady Marshals beat Franklin Simpson 6-4 in the first of two scheduled games on Saturday in the Slugfest with the night cap against Graves County canceled due to weather.

After trailing Franklin Simpson 4-2 after two innings, the Lady Marshals scored a run in the fourth and fifth innings and two in the sixth to pick up their 10th win of the season.

Franklin Simpson took the early 1-0 lead but in the bottom of the first, the Lady Marshals scored two runs on a double by Harris that drove in the first and sacrifice by Gracelyn Darnall for the lead.

Franklin Simpson took a 4-2 lead in the bottom of the second. Madyson Morton drove in a run in the bottom of the third and a sacrifice hit by Macy McLeod tied the game at 4-4 after four innings. The Lady Marshals took the lead for good in the bottom of the sixth with two runs scoring on a single from McLeod who led the team with three RBIs.

Allicen Harris pitched the first five and two thirds innings, striking out eight, allowing nine hits and four runs. The win went to Darnall in one and a third innings, allowing two hits, zero runs while striking out one.
