CFS Lady Eagles split first two games of the season

Jayden Jackson struck out three, allowed two hits and two runs in the Lady Eagles 17-2 win over Dawson Springs.

Christian Fellowship Lady Eagles opened their season at home on Monday with a 17-2 win over Dawson Springs. Tuesday at Calloway County in their first district game, the Lady Eagles lost 20-1. The Lady Eagles return their entire squad from last year’s 10-6 season.

In Monday’s season opener, a huge 9-run bottom of the first for the Lady Eagles set the tone for the 3-inning win on 17 hits.

Senior Jayden Jackson drew a walk and a single by senior Elizabeth Dunning brought in the first run for CFS. The scoring continued on a passed ball, double from senior Lillian Burnett, five runs on based loaded walks and a single from Burnett to finish out the 9-run inning.

Five more runs in the bottom of the third inning came on walks, a passed ball and two singles from seniors Renee Shields and Rhema Howard. The Lady Eagles final three runs in the third inning crossed the plate on three more passed balls by the Dawson Springs catcher.

Dawson Springs avoided the shutout with two runs in the top of the third inning.

Jackson pitched the win, allowing two hits, two runs and struck out three.

Calloway County beat CFS 20-1 on 19 hits over five innings on Tuesday. The Lakers scored runs in all five innings led at the plate by Preslee Phillips who went 4-for-5 with four doubles and four RBIs. Bailee Grogan was a perfect 4-for-4 and batted in three runs and Ashlynn Bazzel hit a couple of doubles and had two RBIs.

The win for the Lakers went to Hailee Jones who gave up four hits, one run and struck out nine over five innings.

The Lady Eagles scored one run in the bottom of the third inning on a single by Dunning that scored Jackson who reached on a single. Four hits for CFS came from Jackson, Burnett and Dunning with two.

The Lady Eagles play at Murray on Thursday followed by a game at McLean County on Friday. Both games get underway at 5:30.
