Feb. 28 public meeting at Marshall County High School Gym
PADUCAH, Ky. (Feb. 15, 2023) — The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) has scheduled a public information meeting to update citizens on planned safety enhancements along U.S. 68 through Draffenville in Marshall County.
The meeting will be in the Marshall County High School Gym Upper Commons area from 5 to 7 p.m., CST, on Tuesday, Feb., 28, 2023. The high school is at 416 High School Road, Benton, KY 42025.
The project runs along the U.S. 68 Corridor from the I-69 Exit 47 southbound ramp at mile point 9.384, extending eastward to U.S. 641 South at mile point 10.078, a distance of about 7/10s of a mile. The corridor includes U.S. 68 intersections with Wellness Way/Carroll Road, Gate Road, U.S. 641 North, and French Drive. On average, more than 13,500 vehicles travel this section of U.S. 68 daily. About 13% of that traffic is trucks.
The project includes construction of four roundabouts and one U-turn configuration to replace existing signalized intersections to enhance safety and improve traffic flow along the U.S. 68 corridor. The public is invited and encouraged to provide input.
“We need public input to help our engineering and design staff as we move to develop a final design,” KYTC District 1 Chief Engineer Kyle Poat said. “We urge anyone who lives nearby, who owns property along the route, or who travels U.S. 68 in the project area to attend. Anyone who has traveled the U.S. 68 Corridor during the morning or afternoon commute is well aware of congestion and other traffic issues through Draffenville.”
There will be no formal presentation. Instead, the public can drop in anytime during meeting hours to review maps, renderings, and other displays. KYTC representatives will be available to answer questions and accept written or oral comments.
Comments will also be accepted via the project website, which will be launched the day of the meeting. Written comments may be mailed to Chris Kuntz, Branch Manager of Project Development, KYTC District 1 Office, 5501 Kentucky Dam Rd, Paducah, KY 42003. Comments must be received by March 24.
Following the meeting, displays and materials on the project will be available for review at the KYTC District 1 Office in Paducah. Office hours are Monday-Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. CST.
All written comments will become part of the official meeting record. Once compiled, the meeting record and supporting documentation will be made available for review and copying after an Open Records request has been received and approved. Open Records requests must be submitted to the Transportation Cabinet, Office of Legal Services, Transportation Office Building, 200 Mero St., Frankfort, KY 40622, or via email to kytc.openrecords@ky.gov .
In accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), anyone who has a disability and will require assistance is asked to notify Chris Kuntz no later than Feb. 24, 2023. Call (270) 898-2431, or mail the request to KYTC District 1 Office, 5501 Kentucky Dam Rd., Paducah, KY 42003.
