Lady Eagles win KCAC Tournament Championship

Christian Fellowship’s Lady Eagles beat Highlands Latin 60-21 to win the KCAC Tournament championship on Saturday. They advanced to the title game after a 70-45 win over June Buchanan. Both of the Lady Eagles games were played on Saturday at North Hardin Classical in Radcliff, Ky. The title follows a runner-up finish in the tournament last season.

In their first win of the day over June Buchanan, the Lady Eagles amassed a 38-9 lead at halftime, led by Lillian Burnett’s 12 points and 10 from Jayden Jackson in the half. The Lady Crusaders picked it up offensively in the second half, going on to outscore the Lady Eagles by four but not able to overcome their first half deficit.

Burnett finished with 20 points and Gracie Howard with 17 to lead the CFS scorers. Riley Likens scored half of the Lady Crusaders points, finishing with 23. June Buchanan beat Community Christian 60-23 and Oneida Baptist Institute 51-27 to advance to the semifinal against CFS.

The Lady Eagles ran away from Highlands Latin early in the KCAC Championship game. A 22-6 first quarter lead stretched to 38-14 at halftime. Gracie Howard scored 19 points in the first half to fuel the 24-point lead.

CFS went on to outscore the Lady Highlanders 22-7 in the second half to claim the KCAC title in the 60-21 final.

Highlands Latin had to win two games to advance to the championship against CFS. They beat Heritage Christian 33-10 and Oneida Baptist 41-28.

Lady Eagles named to the All-Tournament Team include Gracie Howard, Rhema Howard, Jayden Jackson and Lillian Burnett. Burnett was selected KCAC Tournament MVP.

Coming up this week, two big district games for the Lady Eagles starting Tuesday at Calloway County and on Friday, they will play at Marshall County.
