Marshals come up short against Paducah Tilghman

Paducah Tilghman spoiled the Marshals hopes for a Homecoming night win on Friday. The Blue Tornado won 66-59, earning a fourth straight win over the Marshals whose last stretch of wins came in 2020 when they swept all three meetings.

Jacob West opened scoring with a three-pointer for Tilghman and they would go up 5-0 before Trey Wall dropped in a three to get the Marshals on the board. Logan Davis hit a three to give the Marshals their first lead of the game at 8-7 and Tommy Robertson’s basket put them up by three at 10-7, but the Blue Tornado finished out the quarter on an 8-2 run to lead 15-12.

Chase Binkley scored the first six Marshall County points of the second quarter, but all were answered on the other end by Tilghman. A steal by Hunter Wallace who fed the ball to Binkley, then Binkley back to Wallace for the score gave the Marshals a 20-19 lead. That lead would grow to 25-20 before it vanished on a 10-0 run by the Blue Tornado to finish out the first half up by five.

Down by nine in the third quarter, the Marshals got a lift off of two straight baskets from Wade Moore to cut it to five. Mian Shaw, back in the game for Tilghman after sitting out since the first quarter with four fouls, immediately made his presence known with five straight points to put the Blue Tornado up by 12. The Marshals chipped away at the Tilghman lead to close the gap to eight points at 49-41, getting a buzzer beater lay in by Logan Parker to end the quarter.

An Alex Staples from Davis combination cut the Tilghman lead to six to open the fourth quarter, then another Davis drive to the goal cut it to four points at 49-45. The Marshals trimmed it to four points three more times and with 28 second remaining trailed 58-54 but Tilghman would finish the night out at the free throw line to pull out the seven-point win.

Moore led the Marshals with 18 points, 14 coming in the second half. Jayvion Powell led Tilghman with 20. Both teams finish the night with a record of 16-6.

Marshall County will play at home on Saturday against St. Mary (10-11), JV tips off at 6:00 followed by the varsity game.
