Friday was one day away from exactly a year ago that Marshall County and Graves County played their first game of the season series at Reed Conder Gymnasium, a night many will never forget. Graves County led 46-45 with just seconds remaining when the game abruptly ended with the threat of a tornado bearing down on both communities.

The Marshals won the second game of the series 71-66 and Friday at the Eagles Nest made it two straight over the Eagles with their 74-59 win. They improve to 5-0 with the win, their first five-win start since the 2015-2016 season.

Trey Wall opened the scoring with a 3-pointer and hit his second moments later, a sign of things to come in the game for the senior who finished with seven threes and led the Marshals with 21 points.

With Hunter Wallace and Alex Staples adding to Wall’s threes, the Marshals jumped out to a 13-5 lead. The Eagles cut it back to three points at 17-14 to end the quarter with help from 3-pointers by Taytum Holland and Lukas Pigg.

The Eagles tied the game at 19 in the second quarter on a 3-pointer by Carson Carrico but the Marshals finished out the half on a 13-4 run to lead 32-23 at halftime. Logan Parker had six points in the quarter including a put back before the buzzer.

Leading 34-25 in the early moments of the second half, Wall sent the Marshall County fans into a frenzy with four straight 3-pointers that put the Marshals up 46-28. Two straight threes to end the quarter by Darrell Hughes helped the Eagles cut the Marshals largest lead of 20 points in the quarter down to 15.

Both teams put up 22 points in the final eight minutes. The Marshals scoring highlighted by a couple of 3-pointers from Staples and a final two-handed slam by Parker to wrap up a very nice win.

Up next for the Marshals is district foe and reigning First Region champion Murray High. Murray is out to a 4-1 start, their only loss to University Heights, without pre-season First Region #1 ranked player Grant Whitaker.
