Marshals grind out second Hoopfest win over Christian Academy-Louisville

Wade Moore, pictured here in the Marshals win Friday over Clarksville Academy, had a big game with 25 points in Saturday’s win over Christian Academy-Louisville.

The Marshals proved they had plenty left in the tank for Saturday’s noon Hoopfest game after their hard-fought win just the night before, when they beat Christian Academy-Louisville 57-49. They held CAL’s Joshua Sangali to just six points after he scored 26 the night before in their 65-60 win over New Madrid, Mo.

Wade Moore had a huge game for the Marshals, the senior scoring 25 points and earning MVP honors. Head Coach Sawyer Donohoo in post-game comments said Moore managed the game well.

“I’m very pleased to grind that one out”, said Donohoo to WCBL. “That won’t be the last one we have to grind out this season.”

Down 8-2 early, Trey Wall gave the Marshals a big lift with his 3-pointer, Alex Staples scored to cut it to one point and Moore hit a three to give the Marshals their first lead at 10-8. Moore’s next basket capped a 10-0 Marshals run and 12-8 lead. Behind Moore’s 10 first quarter points, the Marshals led CAL 17-16 in the first quarter.

CAL outscored the Marshals by two in the second quarter to take a 25-24 lead at halftime.

Down by one at 28-27 to start the second half, Staples hit back-to-back threes for the Marshals to give them a three-point lead and he finished out the third quarter with a free throw for a 36-33 lead heading into the final eight minutes.

With 3:15 left in the game, the Marshals led by five. A timely 3-pointer from Wall stretched that lead to eight at 49-41. In the final two minutes, Moore scored four points and went 4-for-6 at the free throw line to seal the 57-49 win.

CAL senior Kirk Lemons had 20 points to lead the Centurions.

Up next, the Marshals will play at Carlisle County on Tuesday. The Comets are 1-1 with a win over St. Mary and loss to Paducah Tilghman.
