MCHS cross country runners compete in State Championships

Marshall County sophomore, Addison Lyles, placed 94th in Saturday’s KHSAA Class 3A State Cross Country Championships with a time of 21:18.60.

In the field of 283 state qualifiers, senior Ciara O’Shea of Madison Central won with a time of 17:07.60. O’Shea, a senior, took the win by exactly one minute over Jessica Secor from Dupont Manual who finished in 18:07.60.

The top finish from the First Region came from Lucy Spaw of Daviess County who placed 38th in 20:06.60. Spaw won the First Region Class 3A title. Dupont Manual won the girls’ team state title and Assumption finished second.

Among a field of 288 in the boys’ race, Ethan McCarty finished 166th with a time of 18:25.00 and Sawyer Collins finished 221st in 19:04.00.

Will Sheets, a senior, from Covington Catholic won the state title with a time of 15:28.20. Noah Matthews of Paul Lawrence Dunbar was second in 15:40.60. Thomas Ashby from Apollo finished fourth in 15:47.70 with the top finish from the First Region. Ashby is also the reigning First Region champion.

The team from Conner took first followed by St. Xavier in second.

The meet was held at the Bourbon County Park in Paris, Ky.
