Marshall County qualifies three for state cross country meet

Three from Marshall County qualified for the KHSAA State Cross Country Championships (L-R) Addison Lyles, Ethan McCarty and Sawyer Collins.

Addison Lyles, Ethan McCarty and Sawyer Collins all qualified for the KHSAA State Cross Country Championships from Marshall County for their performances in Saturday’s Region 1 Class 3A meet hosted by Marshall County High School.

Lyles finished eighth in the girls’ varsity 5K race with a time of 21:00.44. First place went to Lucy Spaw from Daviess County in 20:05.86. Daviess County placed four runners in the top 10 on their way to a first place team finish. As a team, the Lady Marshals finished ninth.

McCarty crossed in 22nd in 18:04.74 and Collins finished 27th with a time of 18:33.07 for their spot in the state meet. The win went to Thomas Ashby from Apollo who ran a time of 15:54.35 to lead his team to a first place overall finish. The Marshals finished seventh in team standings.

The KHSAA Class 3A State Cross Country Championships will take place on Saturday, Oct. 28 at the Bourbon Cross Country Course in Paris, northeast of Lexington. The boys race starts at 3:00 followed by the girls at 4:00.
