CCA tops CFS in clash of top First Region teams

Christian Fellowship and Community Christian, two of the top teams in the First Region, split their two meetings so far this season. CFS won the first round in August 3-2 and CCA the second 2-0 in the First Region All ‘A’ Classic on Sept 10.

On Tuesday, CCA took round three when they beat the Lady Eagles 3-1 (25-23, 25-23, 23-25, 25-23) in a match that couldn’t have been any closer. The Lady Eagles are 21-8 with the loss while CCA improves to 23-10.

Lillian Burnett led CFS in kills with 23 and Cordia Hood had nine. Lilian Griggs led in assists with 19. Jayden Jackson led in digs with 21, Rhema Howard had 18, Burnett 16 and 14 for Hood. Burnett served up four aces.

Burnett currently ranks 10th in the state in kills with 399 over 81 sets played. Community Christian’s Dailyn Cauley ranked 19th before Tuesday’s game with 322 over 73 sets. Cauley had 15 kills against the Lady Eagles.

Friday and Saturday, the Lady Eagle played six games in the Quad State Tournament in McCracken County and finished 3-3. Wins came over West Creek, Tenn., University Heights and Piggott, Ark. The losses were to Madisonville-North Hopkins, Apollo and Warren East.

Over the six games, Burnett led in kills with 65, Griggs in assists with 69 and in digs, Rhema Howard had 45 and Jackson 43.

The Lady Eagles final regular season game is today at Ballard Memorial (11-12).
