Marshals advance to fifth straight First Region title game

Ethan Tabor (7) watches his shot sail into the goal to give the Marshals a 1-0 lead in the first half of Tuesday’s First Region semifinal against Paducah Tilghman.

The Marshals will advance to Thursday’s First Region Championship game for the fifth straight year on Thursday and will take on McCracken County. They beat Paducah Tilghman 2-0 and the Mustangs defeated Calloway County 2-1 in the second semifinal of the night.

McCracken County will be looking for a third straight Region 1 title after beating the Marshals in the last two championship games. In 2021 the Mustangs won 2-1 in a game that went into overtime and decided on penalty kicks and in 2020 they won 2-1. In 2019, the Marshals beat the Mustangs 1-0 in the title game.

Tuesday’s semifinal was scoreless through the first 20 minutes of the first half before Ethan Tabor’s goal put the Marshals on the board 1-0 and that would be the score at halftime. The Marshals protected the 1-0 lead but sealed the win with eight minutes to go when a foul on Paducah Tilghman set up a successful direct kick from Jericho Evans for the 2-0 win.

With a record of 15-4, the Marshals will meet the 16-4-3 Mustangs for a chance at their 16th Region 1 title.
